A professional grade maritime safety and weather information receiver designed for use on IMO mandatory fit vessels. It provides up to the minute safety information on an easy to read 6” colour display that is viewable even in bright sunlight. Fitted with a tri-channel receiver, the SMARTFIND GMDSS NAVTEX simultaneously monitors the English language, national language and long range NAVTEX services.

NAVTEX – short for Navigational Telex – is an automated system used to transmit navigational alerts, weather warnings and urgent safety and rescue information. Traditional NAVTEX equipment recorded transmissions as a paper hard copy, but modern NAVTEX receivers use an LCD display and also offer integration with chartplotter and ECDIS systems.

NAVTEX broadcasts are sent on two medium frequency bands – 518kHz (international English language service) and 490kHz (local language service). There is also a long range Marine Safety Information (MSI) service broadcast on HF 4209.5kHz. Transmissions are normally made by the national coastguard and/or weather authorities and is a non-subscription service provided free of charge.

A NAVTEX receiver forms part of the GMDSS mandated equipment package required by law for all commercial vessels over 300 tons. However, because of the vital navigation, safety and weather information that is broadcast over NAVTEX many non-mandate vessels and leisure boats choose to carry a NAVTEX receiver onboard.

The SMARTFIND GMDSS NAVTEX is designed to be fitted on IMO mandatory fit vessels and displays automatic updates of weather information, navigational warnings and other important safety information on its bright, 6in display which displays colour coded messages depending on the NAVTEX message type – Meteorological Forecasts, Navigation Warnings or Search and Rescue alerts. The backlight level and text sizes are user adjustable to suit your needs and messages

can be sorted by channel, station ID, category type or most recent.

The SMARTFIND GMDSS NAVTEX features a powerful tri-channel receiver, which allows the unit to simultaneously monitor the 518KHz English language,

490KHZ national language and the 4209.5KHz long range NAVTEX services. It can also be interfaced with ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System) and INS (Integrated Navigation System) equipment as well as to an external printer. A range of antenna options are available including a professional grade heavy duty two band active antenna for high quality reception of all official NAVTEX services.
